CM Punk sounded frustrated again after SummerSlam and The Miz loved every second of it.
Punk’s post-show comments about not closing Night One immediately got people talking.
But while everyone else debated whether he had a point, Miz heard something different.
To him, it sounded like the CM Punk he remembers from years ago; the one who always had a chip on his shoulder and wasn’t afraid to let everyone know it.
While speaking on WrestleRant, the A-Lister called Punk’s promo one of the best things he’s done since returning to WWE before admitting it’s the version of Punk he’s been waiting to see again.
“I think promos can be special.
“I thought CM Punk’s promo last night after the show was very special.
“I don’t think people give him enough credit… That’s off the top of the head.
“Not only does he still have it… Man, you know what I want to see? I want to see the CM Punk with a chip on his shoulder.”
When the interviewer said fans have already been getting that CM Punk, Miz wasn’t really buying it.
The former 2 time WWE champion said the Punk he remembers wasn’t the guy doing polished media interviews in a suit. He remembered the Punk from the end of his first WWE run: the unhappy one who carried himself differently and, in Miz’s words, was “lethal.”
“No. You don’t remember CM Punk like I remember CM Punk.
“I was there, and that CM Punk was lethal.
” remember when he left, like right before, I remember the feeling, the way he was. He was not happy at all.
“Now we see CM Punk in interviews wearing a suit, I’m like, ‘Man, it’s almost like Corporate Punk.’
“I was like, ‘Ooh, I like this Punk.’ I like a Punk that’s not the main event, that should be in the main event, that knows he deserves to be in the main event, that’s paved the way and just deserves to be where he’s at.
“Now he’s letting people know.”
For The Miz, Punk’s SummerSlam promo wasn’t memorable because of what he said about the main event. It was memorable because it reminded him of the CM Punk he remembers from years ago.
