Malakai Black may have had another option following his WWE release earlier this year.
While most of the conversation since his release has focused on a possible AEW return, it turns out another promotion also reached out shortly after he became available.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Major League Wrestling made preliminary contact with Black a couple of weeks after WWE released him in April.
The talks never progressed beyond the early stages, and there was no fallout between the two sides; they simply didn’t go anywhere.
That also seems to be where things still stand right now.
Fightful reported there has been no renewed movement between Black and MLW since then.
As for AEW, where Black previously led the House of Black, sources within the company said they have not heard that he is currently on his way back either.
For now, Malakai Black’s focus appears to be getting back in the squared circle, since he will be competing again later this year.
Last week, PROGRESS Wrestling announced that he will wrestle under the Malakai Black name during its Odyssey Tour in September.
Black will have appearances scheduled for Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester. Those shows will mark his first matches since becoming a free agent.
That means Black’s next move still has not been decided.
So, MLW’s early interest never turned into anything. There’s also currently no indication that an AEW return is on the horizon, and Black is instead preparing for his return to the independent scene.
Malakai Black has proven himself to be one of the most talented professional wrestlers over the last decade. So, any company would be lucky to have him.
Whether that means returning to Tony Khan’s company or joining MLW or an entirely different company remains to be seen, but fans will definitely keep an eye out on what he’ll do in the end.
