Night 17 of the G1 Climax tournament has concluded and New Japan Pro Wrestling have announced the semi-final brackets.
The first semi-final will be contested by the winner of Block A and the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji who defeated Jake Lee on night 16 to advance. He will take on the runner up from Block B Yuya Uemura who defeated OSKAR in his final match to advance in the G1 Climax.
Tsuji will be looking to be the first man to win the G1 Climax whilst being IWGP Heavyweight Champion whereas, Uemura will be looking to achieve his first major accolade in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The second semi-final will be between former NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion and the runner up of Block A Ryohei Oiwa. Oiwa defeated Konosuke Takeshita in his final match on night 16 of the tournament. He will be going up against the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and reigning New Japan Cup holder Callum Newman. Newman defeated fellow United Empire teammate HENARE on night 17 to advance.
Oiwa is looking to replicate what TMDK leader and tag partner Zack Sabre Jr achieved in 2024 by winning the G1 climax whereas Newman will be looking to regain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship should he win the G1 Climax.
The G1 Climax semi-finals will take place on Saturday 15th August with the final set to take place on Sunday 16th August.
