WWE and AEW will once again be running major shows against each other next month.
WWE x AAA Worlds Collide is scheduled for September 26 at Allstate Arena in Chicago, the exact same day AEW brings All Out to the Chicago area.
The event was already getting a lot of attention after the company confirmed a second Worlds Collide following the success of the first crossover with AAA last year in June.
Now there’s another big name involved.
WWE took to Twitter on Thursday to celebrate 20 years of CM Punk.
They revealed the Undisputed WWE Champion’s appearances through the end of October while also announcing a special ticket promotion using the code PUNK20.
“Two decades of The Best in the World! 👊 Save up to 20% on select tickets using code: PUNK20 as WWE honors 20 years of @CMPunk!”
But one date immediately stood out: September 26. Buried in the schedule was confirmation that CM Punk will be part of WWE x AAA Worlds Collide in Chicago.
CM Punk’s appearance also comes with some obvious timing.
Worlds Collide will take place on the same Saturday AEW presents All Out in the Chicago area. So that means WWE and AEW will once again be running major events against each other.
This is nothing new, as WWE has been constantly counterprogramming AEW for well over a year now.
The most interesting thing about CM Punk’s involvement is the fact that he used to be in AEW. So him going against his former employer next month adds some much-needed mustard.
What Punk’s role will be hasn’t been announced. WWE hasn’t revealed whether he’ll wrestle, appear in a segment or simply be part of the show.
So we will just have to wait and see what the company has planned for the Undisputed WWE Champion next month in Chicago.
