Chelsea Green is one of the most over women on the WWE roster.
After being released in WWE back in 2021, she rebuilt her career away in Impact Wrestling and has been one of the leading lights in WWE since she returned back in 2023.
Known for her comedic timing and her ability to make fun of herself to entertain the fans, Green has always been someone who has maximised her minutes on screen.
After years of toil, Chelsea Green became interim WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam when she won a five way ladder match for the title.
For fans of Green, it was vindication after all the hard work she’d put into her time as a professional wrestler.
But this wasn’t the first time that fans had rallied in support of the Canadian.
In July, the latest edition of WWE:Unreal was released on Netflix with one of the most discussed part of the reality show focused around comments made by Michael Hayes on Chelsea Green.
Hayes mentioned that Green was not a main event wrestler.
That energised fans who took up the mantle for Chelsea Green and felt vindication when she won the top prize for women at SummerSlam.
And now Chelsea Green has addressed her feelings on those comments.
Speaking on The Nikki & Brie Show, the new Interim WWE Women’s Champion admitted she barely reacted when she first watched Hayes question her behind the scenes.
In fact, Green stated she’d heard those kinds of comments so many times throughout her career that they didn’t even register anymore.
“Isn’t that hilarious? It’s hilarious. And just know that, so first of all, I’m not an emotional person at all… I watched it and I didn’t think anything of it.
“I was so emotional that entire day and I had seen Michael Hayes and he had given me like words of encouragement, but back to Unreal. I watched it and I didn’t think anything of it.”
“And then when I started getting flooded with texts, I changed my mind like, ‘Oh yeah, that was kind of mean. That was kind of rude.'”
Green went further and revealed that dedicating her big win to Hayes on the post-show wasn’t because she was angry. It was because she knew fans wanted to see her enjoy the last laugh.
“When I went on the post show… I was like, ‘I have to do this.’
“Even though I don’t feel any type of way about it, I have to dedicate this win to him because I’m the petty queen that I am… the fans need to see that.”
“Like that’s what they wanted to hear. Whether I cared about it or not, they needed the moment of me saying yes. And like Michael Hayes is such a good sport.”
Chelsea Green may have shrugged off Hayes’ comments at first, but once fans rallied behind her, she realised they wanted to see the underdog finally get her moment.
SummerSlam gave them exactly that, and Green made sure everyone, including Michael Hayes, was part of the story.
