It looks like one of AEW’s longest-running backstage rumors is finally becoming reality.
After months of speculation and quiet appearances away from television, a new report suggests one AEW prospect’s future with the company is now viewed as little more than a formality behind the scenes.
That prospect is Steven Borden, the son of the one and only Sting.
According to Fightful Select, the belief within AEW is that Borden is already under contract, even though the company has yet to officially announce him as part of the roster.
The outlet described the situation as a “foregone conclusion” after checking back on a report it first published late last year.
That update should not really come as much of a surprise, either.
Back in December, Fightful reported that Borden was expected to sign with AEW shortly after impressing officials during his early appearances with the company.
At the time, there was already speculation that he may have quietly signed a deal with the company.
Since then, Borden has continued putting in the work behind the scenes rather than on television.
According to the report, he has now wrestled more than two dozen dark matches before AEW events, slowly but surely gaining experience while remaining largely out of the public eye.
That’s not all, because the Borden family’s wrestling future could extend even further.
Fightful also noted that Steven’s brother, Garrett Borden, has started training as a professional wrestler and has already worked matches of his own.
While Garrett hasn’t been confirmed as an AEW talent, the report states that he is on the company’s radar, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see AEW sign him up, too.
AEW still hasn’t officially confirmed Steven Borden’s signing. But after months of reports pointing in the same direction, it sounds like people within the company already consider it a done deal.
